YOUTH FOR CHANGE PROJECT – “All Different, All Equal”

Project resume

Abstract:

The integration of non-European refugees and immigrants has been proven to be challenging. The biggest challenge is to discover how to live and interact with difference and diversity in a peaceful and sustainable way. To address this issue, the project endeavors to develop and exploit the capacity, curiosity, and power of young people as a positive change agent that promotes equality of rights, human rights values, mutual understanding for diversity, active social participation, and not the least, spreading knowledge and best practices as a contribution to the search for a more sustainable integration.

The project is implemented under the following partnership:

  • Crossing Borders Denmark as lead partner – www.crossingborders.dk
  • Intermezzo Ungdomsorganisasjon from Norway – https://www.intermezzo-ungdom.com
  • Carlstad Youth Association from Sweden – https://www.facebook.com/carlstadya/

The project has three objectives:

  1. Create a better social understanding and tolerance among young people for different ethnic groups living in the Nordic countries
  2. Encourage youth to take sustainable actions against xenophobia and discrimination in relation to the current refugee and migrant crisis in the Nordic countries
  3. Capture the views, experiences, ideas and voices of young people throughout the Nordic countries to enhance social recognition, future research and possibly school reform

Activities:

  • Two Youth for Change (Y4C), Capacity Building trainings for youth leaders and young journalists between fifteen to thirty years old from the Nordic countries.
  • After the training, these youths will develop both core competences and social insights for working on equality of rights, human rights values, immigrants and refugee topics and inter-cultural communication via:
    • workshop facilitation,
    • social events organization,
    • publications, and
    • networking activities.

Project outcomes:

As result, it is expected that this project will:

  • Enhance a mutual understanding for diversity, better tolerance and opportunities for different ethnic groups as well as take sustainable actions against xenophobia and discrimination.
  • This project will also lead to the spreading of new knowledge, hands-on experiences, and good practices as a contribution to the search for a more sustainable integration between the Nordic countries.
